One Tap Away: Setting Up Favourites for the People You Call Most

If you find yourself scrolling through your contacts every time you call the same handful of family members, this guide shows you how to set up Favourites — a quick-access list that turns your most common calls into a single tap, on your phone and in WhatsApp.

Why bother setting this up

Most of us call a fairly small circle of people regularly — a partner, children, a couple of close friends. Favourites keeps just those people front and centre, so you're not hunting through a long contacts list every time, especially handy if your contact list has grown cluttered over the years.

Setting up Favourites on an iPhone

  1. Open the Phone app

  2. Tap the Favourites tab along the bottom

  3. Tap the + in the top corner

  4. Choose a contact, then choose whether you'd like to call or video call them by default

  5. Repeat for anyone else you call often

Setting up Favourites on Android

  1. Open the Phone app

  2. Find the contact in your list

  3. Tap and hold their name, then choose "Add to favourites" (wording may vary slightly by phone brand)

  4. They'll now appear in a Favourites or Starred section, usually near the top of the app

Doing the same thing in WhatsApp

  • Open a chat with the person you call often

  • Tap their name at the top of the chat

  • Look for "Add to Favourites" and tap it

  • They'll now appear at the top of your WhatsApp Calls tab for one-tap calling

A small change, worth making

This isn't a complicated feature, but it's an easy one to overlook. Once it's set up, staying in touch with the people who matter most becomes just that little bit more effortless — which, over time, tends to mean it actually happens more often.
